11 of the SBSC ELITE swimmers recently returned from Clovis for a senior level championship competition - here are the highlights.
Alex Valente entered the meet with butterfly times that already ranked him in the top 5 in the country in the 15 year old age group. By the end of the competition Alex had clearly separated himself from the rest of the country. Posting times of 1:46.63 in the 200 fly and 48.33 in the 100 fly, Alex obliterated the previous top times nationally. Alex is now the fastest 15 year old butterflier in America by 3 seconds in the 200 fly and a full second in the 100 fly. Congratulations Alex.
Walker Bell had a tremendous meet, improving in every event and posting dramatic improvements in his 500 free (4:35) and 400 IM (4:00.18). Both swims inch Walker closer to Jr National cuts and place him as one of the top mid-distance racers for 15 year olds in California.
Maelyn Adornetto improved 3 seconds in her 200 breaststroke for a 4th place finish at the meet. Her time of 2:19.97, breaking a significant barrier for breaststroke specialists, puts her only a second away from the Jr. National time standard.
Cuyler Gabriel improved 4 seconds in his 400 IM and 3 seconds in his 200 IM and shaved another full second off his 200 backstroke with a 2:06.20.
Dasha Depew swam in finals in the 100, 200 and 500 free and posted new PRs in all of her races with a very quick 5:05.59 in her 50 free.
Reagan Eickert improved 4 seconds in her 500 free to a 5:07 and led off the SBSC team relay with a new PR of 1:55.69.
Olivia Smith improved 3 seconds in her 200 IM and swam both the 200 IM and 400 IM in finals as well as the 100 and 200 fly.
Courtney Nuttall improved nearly 2 seconds in the 100 fly but fell heartbreakingly close to breaking the 1 minute barrier when she posted a time of 1:00.00. Courtney also improved 4 seconds in her 200 backstroke for a new PR of 2:10
Janelle Nguyen swam in finals in the 100, 200 fly and the 200 and 500 free.
Tarry Bruckhardt broke 48 in the 100 free for a new PR of 47.91. Tarry swam in finals in the 50, 100 free and 100 breaststroke.
Ali Powell broke 2 significant barriers in one day. First she broke 2 minutes in the 200 free, then she broke 24 in the 50 for a time of 23.86. Ali is now less than half a second off the Jr National cut in the 50 free.
Dana Sloan improved her 200 free by a full second to bring her PR down to 1:57.68. Dana also led off the 400 F.R. with a new PR of 54.43.
